An Important Update from MASD
Dear MASD Families,
Earlier today, a weapon was found in the possession of a high school student. We want to assure you that the safety of all students and staff was never compromised, and there was no immediate threat to anyone on campus. The police were immediately notified, and the situation was handled swiftly. At no point was there any intent to harm students or staff.
Both the weapon and the student are with the police following an initial investigation. Out of an abundance of caution, the police presence was increased on campus today.
As a result of their investigation, the Moon Township police have determined this is an isolated incident and is not related to general social media threats that have been circulating the region.
We would like to remind everyone that the district enforces a strict no-weapons policy on school grounds. The district will pursue appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with our Student Code of Conduct, and the police will continue their investigation.
We encourage all parents to have conversations with their children about the importance of reporting any suspicious activity or concerns to an adult. If you or your child sees something or hears something, please report it to the local police or a school administrator. Open communication is key to maintaining a safe and secure school environment for everyone.
Thank you for your continued trust and support.
Sincerely,
Barry J. Balaski
Superintendent, Moon Area School District
