In celebration of PBIS word of the month "kindness," 4th grade students at Bon Meade Elementary surprised teachers and staff members with acts of kindness.

Moon Area School District's Kennywood day is Monday, June 15, 2026! Tickets are $32.99 if purchased by May 18. The price will increase to $35.99 after the May 18th deadline.

The Moon Area School District Board of School Directors recognized several outstanding students at a school board meeting in March. 

The School Board also recognized two outstanding student athletes -- Haley Smarsh and Cael Yanek. 

MASD Hosts Regional PA Principals Association Meeting Moon Area School District (MASD) hosted the West III Regional Service Session (RSS) of the Pennsylvania Principals Association on March 26 at the high school. The event brought together school leaders from across Western PA for a day of collaboration and professional learning.

Moon Area School District Elementary Challenge students had an incredible day at Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium participating in Wild Investigations, hosted by the Allegheny Intermediate Unit!

On Wednesday, March 11, members of the High School Student Council and Bon Meade Elementary Student Council, along with sponsors Mrs. Bethany Klisavage and Ms. Lucia Hrabovsky, delivered the snacks collected during their recent snack drive to Beverly’s PGH in North Huntingdon.

Moon Area School District (MASD) hosted a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, March 10 to commence and celebrate the construction of various stadium renovations.

An education and support virtual series that provides students, parents, families, staff, etc. the opportunity to learn and gain information from presenters from local organizations, agencies and businesses is available to MASD families and staff members.

During the month of February, the High School Student Council and Bon Meade Student Council are working together to sponsor a snack drive for Beverly's Birthdays, a local non-profit that provides thousands of underserved children with birthday parties, clothing, snacks, infant formula, and smiles annually. Their mission is simple -- they want every kid to know that they matter. Students, staff and families at the high school and Bon Meade want to help!

This month, Bon Meade Elementary School was bursting with excitement as they celebrated 25 amazing students who showed outstanding perseverance.

As we reflect on another successful year, we are proud of the progress we have made together as a district. With our high school, middle school, and four elementary schools - Allard, Bon Meade, Brooks, and McCormick - we have entered a new chapter in the history of Moon Area. We are excited for what the future holds for our entire school community.

Happy National School Counseling Week!

Thank you to our incredible school counseling team -- Allison Ream, Amanda Spirnak, Gregory Christian, Neil Tkatch, Valerie Valdiserri, Tyler Krokonko, Kelly Speer, Julie Sitko, Emily Smith, Patricia Johnson, Deanne Hinerman, Jodi Yanosick, and Melissa Monyak!

Our elementary students celebrated in style—some dressed like they were 100 years old, while others rocked shirts covered in 100 items! From counting, creating, and solving math challenges to STEAM fun in the library, it was a day filled with learning, laughter, and lots of 100-themed smiles! 

Our Elementary gifted students had an amazing time at BotsIQ!

Students were challenged to think like engineers as they designed prosthetic limbs, beaks, and shells for injured animals. Through creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving, they explored how STEM can make a real-world impact—all while having a lot of fun!

Several Moon Area School District Elementary Challenge students qualified for the National competition through the International Academic Competition (IAC) regional qualifiers! 

Dr. Elizabeth Zona, an anesthesiologist and addiction medicine physician, has been visiting Moon Area elementary schools to present to fourth-grade students on healthy living and lifestyle choices. She is joined by Moon Area High School students Aubrey Marasco, Melina Toliver, and Gabby Gallagher.

The Moon Area Education Foundation (MAEF) will host its annual Trivia Night on Sunday, February 22, 2026 from 5:00–8:00 p.m.

Tiger Stadium and the tennis courts are now closed to the public due to our scheduled construction project. They will remain closed until the project is complete in the fall of 2027. 

During the month of December, students at Bon Meade Elementary School spread kindness and generosity throughout the school by earning Tiger Tickets and/or being nominated by their teachers.

Bon Meade Elementary School third grade students went on a world tour without leaving school!

Each classroom transformed into a different country—Mexico, Italy, Germany, USA, and France. 

Both of Mrs. Barnhart’s classes at Bon Meade Elementary School spread kindness throughout the holiday season with a meaningful and creative activity. Students decorated holiday ornaments and, on the back, wrote about one kind act where they went above and beyond to help others.

Congratulations to our eight Elementary Challenge students who competed in Canon-McMillan Gifted Support’s first-ever CalcuCrush Competition!

Bon Meade Elementary teachers recently had a little fun celebrating the 67th day of school by wearing 6/7 shirts——all because our students love to say “6/7!” whenever they hear the number 67.

Moon Area Challenge Teams recently had an exciting and enriching day at the Heinz History Center, where they competed in this year’s History Bowl. The event offered 4th, 5th and 6th grade students the opportunity to explore museum exhibits, solve creative challenges, and put their history knowledge to the test in a fast-paced competition.

Bon Meade Elementary students, staff, and families came together to celebrate Veterans Day in a truly special way! 

Moon Area School District is pleased to announce that Mrs. Christina Frazier has been appointed the district's new Director of Curriculum and Instruction. Mrs. Frazier brings extensive experience in Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and Positive Behavior interventions and Supports (PBIS), along with a strong alignment to the district’s vision and goals. 

The possibility of winter weather is right around the corner. We want to make sure families are as prepared as possible for any changes to our typical schedule. 

The Moon Area Art Department spent their in-service day at the Pittsburgh Botanic Garden, exploring new ways to bring nature-inspired creativity into the classroom. Garden educators led the professional development session, sharing strategies for incorporating repurposed and natural materials into art lessons.

We are excited to announce that the Moon Angel Tree Program is returning this holiday season! Last year, we were overwhelmed by the incredible generosity of our Moon Area families, whose contributions helped fulfill the wishes, needs, and dreams of 194 Moon Area School District students, bringing joy to many families during the holiday season!

Bon Meade Elementary staff showed their hand this Halloween—one full deck of fun! After suiting up as cards, everyone gathered for a festive Halloween luncheon that was just as sweet as the celebration.

Mrs. Leto’s third grade students recently began exploring multiplication! Students teamed up with partners to use manipulatives, create equal groups, and find the product of their partner’s equation. 

Hands-on learning makes math so much fun!

Fourth grade students in Mrs. Barnhart’s science classes at Bon Meade Elementary recently participated in a creative engineering challenge. Each student began by responding to the prompt, “Design, Draw, and Write About Something That Can Launch Something Far.”

October is Principal Appreciation Month! We’re so grateful for our incredible principals at Moon Area School District who lead with dedication, compassion, and a commitment to student success every single day. Thank you for all that you do! 

Moon Area School District Elementary Challenge students recently explored their creativity as nature artists in an engaging art lesson inspired by the renowned environmental artist Andy Goldsworthy.  This immersive experience encouraged students to connect with nature while expressing their unique artistic vision.

In honor of National School Bus Safety Week, we're raising awareness about how we can all safety share the road with our school buses.

Did you know thousands of Moon Area School District students ride the bus to and from school? Ensuring they are safe during their travel is all of our responsibility.

This month, students in kindergarten through second grade at Bon Meade Elementary learned about the importance of Fire Safety. As part of this initiative, our students helped collect gift cards and monetary donations from all grade levels and community members to show appreciation for the Moon and Crescent Township Fire Departments.

Bon Meade Elementary School students were thrilled as the StuntMasters BMX Team rolled outside to perform high-flying tricks and share powerful messages to launch our PBIS “Tiger Pride” program.

Bon Meade Elementary School received a commendation from Representative Valerie S. Gaydos in recognition of their hard work and commitment to fostering a safe and fun environment for students to learn and grow.

Bon Meade Elementary recently held a special essay contest to select this year’s Student Council representatives. Students were invited to write about one of three important themes: leadership, teamwork, or why helping others is important.

The Moon Area High School Theatre Department is excited to present "Descendants: The Musical" as their fall show and would like to extend the opportunity to participate in the production to any interested fourth grade students in the district!

We want to take a moment to address an important issue regarding the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools by students. While AI can be a powerful educational resource, it also carries risks if used inappropriately. Specifically, creating or sharing AI-generated photos or videos that misrepresent individuals or events, or that disrupt our school environment, can cause serious harm.

Moon Area Athletics would like to remind all supporters and visiting spectators attending varsity football games at Tiger Stadium that parking is strictly prohibited at Sharon Community Presbyterian Church, located directly behind our campus.

The 2025 Moon Area School District Homecoming festivities were a lot of fun! Thank you to everyone who joined us for the carnival, parade, and football game. Congratulations to Danica Bacu on being crowned the 2025 Homecoming Queen!

Students in second grade at Bon Meade Elementary joined in a special celebration of Constitution Day. As part of the activities, students learned important facts about the U.S. Constitution, including its history and significance.

We are excited to kick off our Homecoming festivities this Thursday, September 18! Join us for the Parade and Carnival!

The Homecoming Parade will take place a 5:30 PM at the middle school and proceed to the stadium where it will conclude with a pep rally. 

The Homecoming Carnival will immediately follow the parade in the upper lot/ stadium lot of the Moon Area High School.

In Mrs. Verdecchia’s computer class, students are growing an essential skill -- typing!

In today's world, children are surrounded by technology, which makes keyboarding more important than ever. Just like handwriting, typing is a lifelong way to communicate.  Since computers and devices are used every day at school, at home, and in nearly every career, learning to type isn’t just helpful, it is a must.

Bon Meade Elementary School has been recognized by the Pennsylvania Positive Behavior Support (PaPBS) Network for successfully implementing School-Wide Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (SWPBIS) with fidelity during the 2024–2025 school year.

Moon Area School District's Kindergarten Orientation will take place on Wednesday, August 20, 2025 from 9:00 am - 11:00 am at your child's elementary school. Doors will open at 8:30 am. 

I hope you're enjoying a well-earned break and finding time to recharge this summer. As we move through these final weeks of summer break, I want to share that our team has been working hard behind the scenes to get everything in place for the new school year.

Right Club combines high-quality academic enrichment, active play, and social skill-building all wrapped in the fun and energy kids love. The program aligns with school schedules and offers activities that support students’ social-emotional growth, homework help, and structured play.

Moon Area School District is pleased to share Dr. Lauren Morgan has been named Assistant Superintendent!

Dr. Morgan previously served as the district’s Director of Curriculum and Instruction for over four years, where she collaborated with faculty and administration to develop, implement, and support high-quality K–12 instructional programs that meet the diverse needs of all students. 

I am honored to enter the role of Superintendent for the Moon Area School District. Having worked in the district for over 20 years, I am deeply invested in this community and excited to work alongside you to support our students, staff, and schools.
